Applying to Participate

All First Nation communities in Ontario can apply to participate in the program. In the first two years of the program, 29 First Nations communities, including five remote communities, were selected to implement conservation measures to meet their energy needs. In 2015, up to 17 communities will be selected for participation.

To participate, First Nation communities must complete an application. Participating communities will be selected based on their ability to meet the following qualifying criteria:

  1. Application submitted by January 31, 2015;
  2. Identification and capacity of a Project Lead to support the delivery of the program;
  3. Number of buildings/houses in the community;
  4. Percentage of buildings with electric heat;
  5. Completion of energy efficiency activities;
  6. Band Council support; and
  7. Identification of potential benefits of the ACP program on the community.

See complete details on the selection process and criteria.

The ABORIGINAL CONSERVATION PROGRAM Program Manager will work closely with participating communities to deliver:

  • Conservation programs
  • Workshops and events to help raise community awareness and engagement
  • Resources and information to create a culture of conservation

To participate in the ABORIGINAL CONSERVATION PROGRAM, First Nation communities should submit an application by January 31, 2015.

In 2015, up to 17 communities with the highest application scores will be selected for participation. All applicants will receive a written debrief on their application within six (6) weeks of the application deadline.

Applications submitted from communities that were not selected in the first two years of the program will be automatically considered for the third year of the program; eligible applicants will not be required to re-apply.
